Artificial island in the form of a tulip will be constructed for the Netherlands
12 December 2007As it has become known, it is planned to construct artificial island in the form of a tulip in Northern Sea near to the Netherlands. It should protect the country from flooding and solve a problem of shortage in territories for habitation construction.
The area of island will make 100 hectares, and its length will make 50 kilometers. Its construction will cost almost 10 billion euro.
According to the lead researches, inhabitants of the Netherlands are afraid of flooding more, than of terrorists’ attacks. Besides, 16 million citizens of the country live on territory, which area makes approximately 41,5 square kilometers.
The quarter of the Netherlands’ area is below the sea level. The height of storm waves in Northern Sea can reach 10 meters.
